Credit Unions
Credit unions (CUs) are non-for-profit, cooperative financial institutions owned and controlled by a group of individuals who join together for the purpose of providing services to members at lower rates, fewer service fees, and high savings rates.

Originally created with the goal of providing financial services to the poor, middle class and low-wage workers, many CUs started as a savings and small loan provider. However, through the course of time, many CUs, especially the large ones, started to expand their market and started offering other financial services such as mortgage loans, car loans, credit cards, and insurance services. In fact, many CUs today are competing head to head with established banks when it comes to the financial services being offered.
